Philippines stocks higher at close of trade; PSEi Composite up 0.21%


Philippines stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking & Financials, Services and Holding Firms sectors led shares higher.


At the close in Philippines, the PSEi Composite added 0.21%.


The best performers of the session on the PSEi Composite were Ayala Corp, which rose 2.37% or 18.000 points to trade at 778.000 at the close. Meanwhile, Energy Development Corp  added 1.91% or 0.110 points to end at 5.870 and Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co  was up 1.66% or 1.40 points to 85.95 in late trade.


The worst performers of the session were JG Summit Holdings Inc, which fell 1.34% or 1.100 points to trade at 80.900 at the close. Ayala Land Inc. declined 1.11% or 0.400 points to end at 35.750 and First Gen Corp  was down 0.89% or 0.20 points to 22.30.


Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Philippines Stock Exchange by 96 to 91 and 54 ended unchanged.


Gold for June delivery was up 0.41% or 5.10 to $1263.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.99% or 0.40 to hit $40.76 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.19% or 0.51 to trade at $43.34 a barrel.


CNY/PHP was down 0.12% to 7.1270, while USD/PHP fell 0.11% to 46.045.


The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 93.66.
