Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Finance & Investment and Shipbuilding sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.13%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp., which rose 8.15% or 51.0 points to trade at 677.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nomura Holdings Inc added 7.43% or 33.3 points to end at 481.5 and Shinsei Bank, Ltd. was up 7.41% or 10.0 points to 145.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. , which fell 2.69% or 240.0 points to trade at 8680.0 at the close. Takara Holdings Inc. declined 2.13% or 19.0 points to end at 871.0 and Kikkoman Corp. was down 1.95% or 70.0 points to 3520.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1311 to 499 and 105 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.21% to 26.02.
Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.12% or 0.05 to $40.41 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.05% or 0.02 to hit $42.85 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.03% or 0.40 to trade at $1258.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.40% to 108.37, while EUR/JPY rose 0.51% to 123.77.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 93.94.
